Who are the last men’s and women’s tennis players from France to win the French Open?

In 1983 Yannick Noah defeated Mats Wilander 6–2, 7–5, 7–6(7–3) to win the French Open and is to this date the last Frenchman to win tennis’ French Open men’s singles championship. For the women you do not have to go back so far. In 2000 French woman Mary Pierce defeated Conchita Martinez 6–2, 7–5 to take the women’s singles crown and is to this date the last French woman to win the women’s singles championship at the French Open.

The first women to compete in the “Championnat de France”, the precursor to the modern French Open  (Les internationaux de France de Roland-Garros), competed in 1897. It was won in that year Adine Masson of France. She went on to win the event again in 1898, 1899, 1902 and 1903.
