To date, the record for the most sacks in an NFL season was compiled by Michael Strahan of the N.Y. Giants. In 2001 he had 22.5 sacks. Number 2 on the list with 22 are Mark Gastineau of the N.Y. Jets (1984), Jared Allen of the Minnesota Vikings (2011) and Justin Houston of the Kansas City Chiefs (2014).

In Super Bowl XXXVII between the Oakland Raiders and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Buccaneers defensive back Dwight Smith intercepted two passes and returned each for a touchdown to set the Super Bowl record. The first interception he returned 44 yards for a touchdown came in the 3rd quarter. The second was a 50 yard interception return for a touchdown in the 4th quarter. This was also the 200th touchdown scored in Super Bowl history. In total, Oakland quarterback Rich Gannon threw 5 interceptions, 3 of which were returned for touchdowns.
